Mike Mraz began brewing as a hobby in 2006. Within two years, he was crowned homebrewer of the year for the state of California, and then repeated the accomplishment the very next year. In May 2013, Mike turned his passion into a profession when he opened Mraz Brewing Company.
A lover of Belgian-style beers, Mike cites the level of respect paid to the craft by the great Belgian brewers as a major influence in the way he designs and crafts his beers. But Mike will be the first to tell you that his appreciation for fine beers extends far beyond a Belgian Tripel or a Farmhouse Style Ale. From a Coffee Porter to an Imperial IPA, there’s an unyielding commitment to quality evident in the appearance, aroma and flavor of every beer Mike brews.
His demanding standards were rewarded in June 2014 when, after a mere 13 months in operation, Mraz Brewing Company received its first gold medals for Window of Opportunity Belgian Tripel and The Cardinal Flanders-Style Red Ale at the California State Fair Craft Brew Competition. The following two years, Mike built on his success with a silver medal each year, one for Lemon Drop Saison and one for Tan-Lines.
Mike’s passions, however, extend far beyond the brewery doorway. Mike loves spending his time away from the mash tun with his family or sometimes riding his mountain bike with a local group of riders. When it is time to relax, a nice plate of sashimi or artisan cheeses to pair with one of his many brews usually does the trick.
